ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
School Curriculum
We are a Catholic school grounded in our mission and philosophy of education. We strive to holistically develop our students academically and spiritually. Recognizing that parents are the primary educators, we reinforce the religious background taught at home by providing a foundation grounded in Catholic-Christian doctrine. We create a Christ-centered atmosphere, which fosters an environment of high academic achievement and enthusiasm for becoming life-long learners.
Courses
Students in grades TK-8 take a variety of courses all of which meet the common core standards enumerated by national, state and Archdiocesan curricula for the following core subject areas: Religion, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts (English, Reading, Spelling, Vocabulary, and Handwriting). Copies of curricula may be ordered through the school office; an overview of subject matter curriculum is given by faculty at Back-to-School night. To better prepare our students we offer Spanish, Computer Lab, Art and Art Studio, Music, and Physical Education Classes.
Computer Lab & Tech Lab
Our Computer Teacher teaches grades TK-3 in our Lower Computer Lab. The intermediate and Jr. High grades 4-8 are taught in our Tech Lab. Both our Lower Computer Lab and Tech Lab are running on the latest operating systems: Window 10 and Microsoft Office 2016. The Lower Computer Lab is located in our first building and is mainly used by our lower grades TK-3 for Language Arts, Math, and for our AR Reading Program. There are 15 computers available for students to use all of them with a set of headphones. A Smart Board is available for use as technology enrichment for all subjects taught.
The Tech Lab is located in our second building. It houses 21 new HP flat screen computers and is mainly used by grades 4-8. Students are instructed in Microsoft Office Programs, applications in Word, Excel, Publishers, and Power Point. The Tech Lab is used for students completing assignments that are integrated with the core subject areas.
Art
Art is part of the school curriculum for grades TK-8. Throughout the year, students are encouraged to enter art contests such as the City Wide “Love-a-Tree” Art Contest sponsored by the City of La Mirada.
Music
We have a Music Teacher that teaches students in grades TK-8 once a week. Students in grades TK-8 have music instruction, which includes learning how to read music and are introduced to many famous composers. In addition, our students in grades 7-8 are learning how to play the chimes. Grades 3-8 have an opportunity to join the school choir. Our choir sing at our weekly Friday liturgies, our Sunday Family School Liturgies, and at our school’s special 1st Holy Communion Mass.
Physical Education
Physical Education is taught twice a week.
Library/Resource Center
Our Library/Resource Center is located in our second building and is equipped with resource materials including library books for every grade level, a Smart Board, and Science materials used for Science Classes/Lab Work. It is available for use by teachers and students in grades TK-8.
